Having a good reason to embark in learning a language is definitely a good start. Meeting others like you that share the same interest is also an excellent thing (what about a language buddy?). On top of this, coming across someone who managed to learn the language you are studying to a great level of proficiency, can give you an extra kick to persevere and make the effort that it takes sometimes to keep such a great project going
