We are not always in a position to help a refugees or to give money to an organisation that supports migrants. But we can all learn and educate ourselves so that we understand the complexities of migration and the human price that opposing and blocking migration produces only too often, every day.
Spanish Bytes is trying to raise awareness on this crude and very current reality. You have opportunities to get closer to this topic with these resources:
As part of you learning Spanish, you can engage with current issues like this one and respond to them, so that you too can make them more visible and better understood. This is crucial and you can contribute to an existing collective effort.
These are some examples of activities that integrate both Spanish and the topic of migration:
- Write, write, write:
2. Collage, on paper or digitally. Collect, cut and paste. Create something that others can see and respond to. Make migration be seen.
3. Make some music. Make migration be heard. Use different voices, different languages (including Spanish), use your favourite instrument. Respond in this way so that others can respond too. The language of music does not need translation!
4. Make a video and post it in YouTube. It does not have to be long, it does not have to be wordy. Make your message clear, make your voice be heard for all of those who are not. Silence can be a form of defeat. Put the wrongs of the world right with a positive contribution. Think and shape your message. It is inevitable to be seen as taking a side if you do not speak up, even if you think you appear as if you are not taking any!
