When using the verb GUSTAR (to like), you need to pay attention to the special way phrases are put together, but also to the way you react to statements that contain GUSTAR or similar verbs such as ENCANTAR (to love), or INTERESAR (to interest).
You have two main possible scenarios to consider. You may either react to a positive statement or to a negative one.
REACTING TO A POSITIVE STATEMENT:
For example, if someone says:
Me gusta mucho ir al cine (I like going to the cinema very much)
This is a positive starting point, and you can either agree or disagree with it, so these are the possible ways to react to it:
AGREEMENT WITH A POSITIVE STATEMENT: A mí también (me too)
DISAGREEMENT WITH A POSITIVE STATEMENT: A mí no (I don’t)
REACTING TO A NEGATIVE STATEMENT:
If someone says:
No me gustan los gatos ( I do not like cats)
This is a negative starting point, and you can either agree or disagree with it, so these are the possible ways to react to it:
AGREEMENT WITH A NEGATIVE STATEMENT: A mí tampoco (Neither do I)
DISAGREEMENT WITH A NEGATIVE STATEMENT: A mí sí (I do)
