Typical Spanish food and traditional covered markets. From leche frita, cured meats, different types of stews to croquetas, empanadillas, tortilla de patata, sangría, gazpacho, pulpo a la gallega (and the list goes on and on), Spanish cuisine is characterized by its variety and taste. Once you are in Spain an important aspect of your trip should include some exploration of all the local dishes. And if you are there long enough, a visit to the local shops and markets would make an interesting complement to your food and drink tasting in bars, cafes and restaurants.

Spanish covered markets can make your visit a very rewarding experience, not only because of the multiple stalls displaying all their colourful fresh produce, and the opportunity to mix with the locals while they engage in their daily shopping, but also because some of those buildings are unique and deserve some attention in their own right.

HERE you can have a look at some of those covered markets, one of them, in Bilbao, being the biggest of its kind in Europe.
