In this podcast you will find a summary of the main things to consider when trying to conjugate a verb in Spanish.
As you know now, it is important to consider the tense you are trying to use: present, past, future… and the group the verb belongs to: 1st (-AR), 2nd (-ER) or 3rd (-IR).
Each group has its, mostly, distinct set of endings, although there are also shared endings, particularly in the case of 2nd and 3rd group verbs.
You need to remove the infinitive ending before you do anything else. This will leave the stem, or main part of the verb. Now, in the case of regular verbs, this is all you need to add the endings to. However, Spanish also has irregular verbs and these, normally, present a number of variations to the stem that you need to know about for each type of irregular verb. This will help enormously to get the irregular verb properly conjugated.
Something you already know too, is that the 3rd person singular and plural forms of the verb, the ones to speak about he, she, it, (él , ella, ello) or its plural form they, (ellos, ellas) will also be the forms you use to address someone formally.
